# Tropos & i*

Two closely related agent-oriented software engineering frameworks.

- **i*** (Yu, 1995; refreshed in Franch et al. 2024, ref [36]) — a goal-oriented requirements modelling language focused on actor dependencies, goals, tasks, and softgoals.
- **Tropos** (Giunchiglia et al. 2002, ref [37]) — a full-lifecycle software development methodology that extends i* into design and implementation.

## Role in APM
Cited as foundational agent-oriented modelling influences for the APM agent's **intentional model** ([[sources/2026-calvanese-agentic-bpm-manifesto]], §2.2.2). Goal-orientation fits naturally with APM's goal-aligned [[concepts/framed-autonomy|frames]].
